Public Transport
Public transport services in Rome are run by the company ATAC and its head office is close to Stazione Termini. When in stock, maps of the centre, the whole of Rome and nightbus routes are available for free. They can also be downloaded from the ATAC website.There is an all-inclusive tourist card known as the Roma Pass which for €23 gives 3 days travel on all forms of public transport within the Rome urban area. Single and 7 day passes are also available. For those planning to explore beyond the city an alternative is the Roma & Più Pass covering a wider area.
La Metro (Metropolitana)
The Rome Metro system is made of up of two lines, Linea A and Linea B, which cross at Stazione Termini, the main train station and the heart of Rome’s transport system.Tourists are likely to be most interested in the section of Linea A connecting Termini, Spagna (Spanish Steps) and the Vatican (at Ottaviano), while on Linea B Termini connects the Colosseum (at Colosseo) and Piramide. Apart from these, the Metro is of limited use for tourists, largely bypassing much of the city centre and its historical attractions.
Trains
Long distance, intercity and suburban trains run from Stazione Termini, along with a dedicated Fiumicino airport train.Bus/Tram
The public bus service runs from 05.30 to midnight daily, and the system is both comprehensive and frequent. A lighter night service runs throughout the night. A basic tram service also runs.Airports
Leonardo da Vinci International (Fiumicino) Airport (FCO)
Fiumicino is Rome’s main airport, and has a rail station within the terminal complex, with a suburban service and connecting to Stazione Termini with a dedicated airport train.Ciampino Airport (CIA)
Ciampino Airport lies to the south east of Rome and is the airport used by budget airlines such as Ryanair and Easyjet. There is no direct rail link but the Airport Bus runs between Ciampino and Stazione Termini.Tourism in Rome
