Ostia Antica

Welcome to RomeMapped.com

With literally 3000 years of history nestling among the modern shops, bars and restaurants Rome is a city that simply must be visited, offering something for absolutely everyone.

Ancient Rome

Must-see attractions include The Forum, Pantheon and the Colosseum, along with the remaining ancient bridges over the river Tiber. These include Pons Fabricius, which was built in 62BC and remains completely intact.

Around 30km north-east of Rome, Ostia Antica houses the ruins of ancient Rome’s main port city, at what was the mouth of the Tiber. Remarkably preserved, the ruins give a fascinating insight into life in an ancient Roman city.

Other attractions

More “modern” sights in Rome include the Piazza di Spagna with its cafes and street musicians and the wonderful 16th Century Spanish Steps (Spagna). The spectacular Trevi Fountain nearby will be familiar to fans of films La Dolce Vita and Roman Holiday. Tradition dictates that visitors who throw a coin into the fountain are guaranteed to return to Rome.

Vatican City

This city-within-a-city is the world’s smallest nation, yet the Vatican City contains more history, art and architectural splendour than most other major cities. Highlights include St Peter’s Basilica and the incomparable Sistine Chapel.
